ENTERPRISE BRANCH AGREED

AND FINALLY . . .
Four in ten office staff allergic to workplace

The 1st of April will see both the establishment of Careers Scotland and the transfer of over 700 UNISON members as employees of  Scottish Enterprise.  Significantly increasing unison membership and organising capacities within Scottish Enterprise

The national structures of UNISON have now agreed that all Careers Scotland staff will be transferred to the existing Scottish Enterprise Branch as soon as possible after the 1st of April.

With elections for branch officers and necessary changes to the branch rules required as well as the physical transfer of over 700 members from UNISON branches across Scotland the union has its work cut out over the next few months.

James Corry, Chair of the UNISON Working Group said,
" Local stewards will be crucial if this approach is to be successful, UNISON members have been superb in the run in to the transfer and I hope that they will continue to support their union"

James added,
"We need to structure the branch in such a way that it is able to represent members within each Area, Scottish Enterprise and the other enterprise linked employers. It's important that every member of the branch feels involved and able to participate in their union"

The branch will include members from Scottish Enterprise, Careers Scotland, Business Gateway, and Local Development Companies

Four in 10 office workers become sick because of allergies caused by work.  The British Allergy Foundation says there's a "mini-epidemic of allergies" with around seven million employees suffering because of office - related problems with air-conditioning, computers, fax machines and carpets.
Muriel  Simmons spokeswoman for the British Allergy Foundation said: "This is a growing problem that is only just beginning to receive attention.  Employers should realise they are forcing staff to work in unproductive conditions that result in a loss of money.  Allergy sufferers need to understand office machinery can make symptoms brought on by outdoor pollutants much worse.
