President's address: For the old, the young, the sick - for all our sakes - keep the Tories out

We have had our differences with Labour, STUC President Martin Keenan told the opening session of this year's Congress in Dundee. "But the stark reality facing us is - if the Tories are elected - and given the statements they have made about the budget deficit and the future for trade unions - would mean some very tough years ahead for us all.

"The front line services that enhance all our lives will be the first to be scrapped altogether - while the Tory supporting elite will enjoy big tax concessions and become fatter and wealthier in the process", warned the Martin who is from the Communications Workers Union.

"Many think Labour has let them down and perhaps it has. But the alternative is a million times worse.

"For the old, the young, the sick - indeed for all our sakes - let's keep the Tories out", said Martin.
