October demo against NHS marketisation
 Conference
gave overwhelming support to a strategy to build broad alliances
to combat the marketisation of the NHS. It also heard that UNISON
has taken the lead in organising a National Demonstration in London
on 13 October this year.
Lilian Macer, speaking on behalf of the Health Service Group Executive,
slammed the artificial creation of a competitive, commercial market
in the National Health Service. These shameful practices are a complete
reversal of what the NHS was created to achieve, which was to make
health a right and not something to be bought and sold," she said,
calling on all activists to turn out in force on 13 October.
 In
the same debate, Marie Garrity, Glasgow Health, urged conference
to also keep up the pressure against Tory plans for the NHS.
