UNION REJECTS MCLEOD REPORT CONCLUSION

The public service union UNISON today rejected the view expressed in the McLeod report on the Shirley Mckie case that the fingerprint staffs involved were guilty of "professional negligence".

A UNISON spokesperson said: "It cannot be professional negligence when other experts made the same identification including the first expert instructed by the Mckie's themselves. The Pass Report (also issued today) supports the SCRO identification on another previously disputed mark and the McLeod report simply illustrates the division between experts on the identification of mark Y7."

In previous evidence to the committee McLeod was identified as the expert who made a palmprint misidentification in another SCRO case together with other experts who subsequently admitted they got it wrong and it was a proper identification by the SCRO experts
