Pay 2008 - get your views known

The second and final stage of the current pay settlement expires on 31 March 2008. The Trade Union Side of the Scottish Joint Council shall be required to submit a pay and conditions of employment claim to the Scottish Employers at the Annual meeting of the Scottish Joint Council to be held on 14th November, 2007.

Branches have been asked to consult as widely as possible with members regarding size, shape, content and length of settlement of the 2008 pay and conditions of employment claim.

Branches have been asked to complete a questionnaire to be returned by no later than 12:00 noon on Friday 3 August 2007.

Members should make their views known to their branches through the consultation processes branches are using, or by the usual communication methods, for example by contacting their steward

The claim affects members who will directly benefit from the Local Government pay settlement, that is....

  • Those who are directly conditioned to the Scottish Joint Council for local government employees (former manual workers and APT&C staff).

  • This may include those staff in the voluntary and related sector and those members who work for organisations where the services that have been contracted out, whose contracts specify that they are conditioned to Scottish Joint Council pay award.

It does not affect members covered by other agreements

  • such as those members employed in Colleges of Further Education, Police Authorities, Chief Officials and Craft Workers.

  • Nor does it include members on locally agreed pay rates or on individual contracts not directly related to the Scottish Joint Council be consulted.

There will then be a meeting of the Scottish Local Government Committee on 20th August 2007 to consider the result of the branch consultation exercise and approve the proposed UNISON's claim. The proposal will then be submitted to the Trade Union Side of the SJC for consideration to agree a pay and conditions claim on behalf of the three trade unions.
