SCOTTISH WOMEN'S COMMITTEE REPORT TO SCOTTISH COUNCIL 9 APRIL 2005

The Women's Committee has not met since the last Scottish Council meeting in February.

However, included in this year's workplan is the development of Women's Organisation in Scotland. This includes an update and re-launch of the Raise the Roof campaigns producing a Women's leaflet and sending out a questionnaire to all Branches re self-organisation at Branch level. In addition, the Women's self-organised website page is going to be updated and revitalised.

Sandra Kennie and Liz Mackay attended the TUC Women's Conference in Scarborough between 9-11 March. The motions debated were wide ranging and included:

  • Challenging Gender Segregation in the Workplace and Education
  • Women Internationally
  • Gender Discrimination in Higher Education
  • Women's Oppression and Gender Stereotyping
  • Representation of Women in the Workplace

  • Pregnancy Discrimination
  • Supporting Parents and Carers
  • Flexible Working
  • Minimum Wage
  • Defending Public Services
  • Bullying at Work
  • Organising Women in Sales Work
  • Working Standards and Pay in O1d and New European Union Member States
  • Palestine
  • Child Support Agency
  • Family Courts and the Welfare of Children
  • Protection Victims of Crime
  • General Council - Equality Seats
  • Elder Abuse
  • Regionalisation of Emergency Control Rooms
  • BBC Charter Renewal and Analogue Switch-off

UNISON moved the motion on Pregnancy Discrimination and it was unanimously supported.
