Manifesto 2011

In the run up to the Scottish Parliament elections in 2011 we will make sure that UNISON voices are heard by Scotland’s political parties. Our manifesto process has identified 12 core positions and a range of policy ideas.

Integrated services
Cost-effective universal public services, not waste and inefficiency of private finance

Investment and equality
More resources for quality public services from fair taxation

Fair treatment
Fair and equal pay, fair pensions, quality training, tackle discrimination at work
Democracy
Greater devolution, local government stronger, quangos democratised, users and staff engaged in planning & delivering services
Environment
Ambitious targets of Climate Change Act now have to be delivered through effective action including at the workplace
Health
Tackle health inequalities, poverty and disadvantage, build NHS Scotland partnership model and democratisation of health boards
Care services
Reverse cuts in funding & staffing, reduce service charges, a halt to privatisation, full cost recovery for voluntary sector
Social work
Implement UNISON/ BASW social work manifesto, reduce bureaucracy, improve staffing levels and workload management
Police staffs
Strengthen delivery of police services, expand role of police staffs, bring all forces up to levels of best
Education
Better pay, training & conditions for support staffs,
more early years provision, national bargaining for colleges
Housing
Affordable housing strategy under democratic control, council and social housing building programme, action to end fuel poverty
Utilities
Democratic structure not privatisation or mutualisation for Scottish Water, balanced Scottish energy policy

Policy networks for each of the 12 core positions have been set up.

We want members and branches to get involved in developing these ideas and play your part in putting Public Services, the people that use them and the UNISON members that provide them, at the heart of the 2011 Scottish Parliament election... starting now.
