Previous news
The Scottish Labour Party has started the process
for electing a Leader and Deputy Leader of Labour in the Scottish
Parliament.
The electoral college used for this election means
that UNISON Labour Link can make a supporting nomination for both
posts and every Labour Link levy paying member will get an individual
vote.
Nominations will close on Friday 1 August at which
time we will know which candidates have the necessary MSP nominations.
There will then be a period to allow supporting nominations followed
by ballot papers being issued on 18 August. The result will be announced
on 13 September.
To assist the Scottish Labour Link Committee in
reaching a decision on which if any candidates to support we have
organised an open meeting for Labour Link levy paying members on:
Tuesday 12 August 2008
at UNISON House, Glasgow starting at 6pm.
Refreshments will be available from 5:30pm.
All the candidates will be invited and members
will have an opportunity to question the candidates on their position
in relation to issues of concern to UNISON members.
The Scottish Labour Link Committee will meet immediately
after this meeting to agree any supporting nomination from UNISON
Labour Link Scotland.
In addition the Scottish Labour Party will be organising
a number of Leadership Election events across Scotland during the
ballot period and details of this will be posted on the Labour Link
pages of the UNISON Scotland website along with other information
on this election, so please check those pages for further information.
Yours fraternally
Dave Watson
