NHS Agenda For Change SPRIG Papers

Agenda for Change
Back to SPRIG Index

8 December 2004

Dear Colleagues

Following protracted negotiations that as I speak at 4.37 p.m. are still going on, the following has been agreed which will be recommended to the Health Minister, Andy Kerr.

1. Waiting List Initiative - colleagues will be aware that at local level a variety of agreements have been negotiated in relation to the Waiting List Initiative. Staff are being paid anything from double time to treble time for working overtime in these projects. This will remain the case until at least 30 June next year. Health Boards will be seeking via the Minister, Variation Orders to accommodate the change in the national terms and conditions of AFC.

2. Overtime Working for Sundays - colleagues will be aware that as from

the 1 December last week - the official implementation date for AFC, overtime rates were reduced from double time on a Sunday to time and a half for many staff, in particular low paid workers. As a result of discussions today, the status quo i.e. if staff received double time for working Sunday prior to 1 December that will continue at least until 1 January. In the meantime there will be further meetings of SPRIG to try and resolve this issue.

All other matters relating to overtime i.e. part-time workers, contracted overtime, remain as pre the 1 December.

A fuller brief will be circulated to branches when we receive the Minister's guidance

Yours sincerely

Jim Devine
